Passports and Visa Requirements for Mount Kilimanjaro

All travelers planning to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania must meet the country’s passport and visa requirements before arrival. Since mid-2018, the Tanzanian Government has introduced an online visa (e-Visa) system, making the application process faster and more convenient for international visitors.

Passport Requirements for Tanzania

To enter Tanzania, your passport must:

  • Be valid for at least six (6) months beyond your intended departure date
  • Contain at least one blank page for immigration stamps
  • Match the passport details used during your visa application

You may also be asked to show:

  • A return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of sufficient funds to cover your stay in Tanzania

If your passport is close to expiring, we strongly recommend renewing it before applying for your Tanzania visa, as visa approval is tied directly to your passport number.
